In August 2006, Richard Warren, a descendant of George Eisenhart/Isenhart, the 1759 immigrant, had the opportunity to visit the village of Dachtel in Baden-Württemberg. This village was the birthplace of the earliest known direct ancestors of many of the families living in the U.S. today, and at the time, we were just beginning to have an appreciation of the role of this small village in our shared past. Richard returned with exceptional photos and a connection with our German cousins. After experiencing the interest and energy that was generated all over the country by the photos, we decided to expand the scope beyond Richard’s photos by producing a DVD that would also give an overview of the history of the area and the immigration of the family to America. Journey to Dachtel—First Edition was released in 2007, and was followed by a Second Edition several months later containing some corrections and additions. A Third Edition is currently being planned to reflect some new information. The brief video clip on this page was prepared as an introduction to Journey to Dachtel.
In June 2008 a group of American Eisenharts and Isenharts were fortunate enough to be able to travel to Germany and meet in Dachtel. This trip allowed us to bond with the Dachtelers, learn about the culture, and retrace the footsteps of our ancestors. Following this trip we compiled the photos of the participants, eventually producing a DVD documenting the high points of our trip. This Return to Dachtel DVD is also currently being updated.
